Atlanta Filmmaker Announces Feature Film on Victoria Woodhull, America’s First Female Presidential Candidate

The Naked Truth brings scandal, power, and America’s first female presidential candidate to the screen.

Award-winning Atlanta filmmaker Victoria lynn Weston has announced the upcoming production of a new historical feature film centered on Victoria Woodhull — suffragist, Wall Street broker, publisher, and the first woman to run for President of the United States in 1872.

Woodhull’s story is one of courage, scandal, and conviction, a narrative that continues to resonate more than 150 years later. From breaking barriers on Wall Street to challenging 19th-century ideas of gender and power, Woodhull’s life was as controversial as it was visionary.

Weston has spent over 25 years researching Woodhull’s life and legacy. Her PBS featured documentary America’s Victoria: Remembering Victoria Woodhull and her award-winning short film Free Lover (Best Director, Best Film Short, Best Actress at multiple festivals) laid the foundation for The Naked Truth. The new feature builds upon this body of work to dramatize Woodhull’s story with bold cinematic vision and historical depth.

The feature, produced under Vireon Films, LLC, is slated to begin production in Georgia in Spring 2026.

Cast & Proof of Concept

To build momentum and introduce audiences to the cinematic vision, the production team is also creating a proof-of-concept short film for the festival circuit. The short stars Lillan Smith (By the Grace of Bob) as Victoria Woodhull, alongside Matthew Cornwell (Captain America) ,

The short centers on a defining moment in Woodhull’s journey, when a private conviction becomes public reckoning—offering a visceral glimpse into the emotional and visual language of the forthcoming feature film.
