Atlanta, GA — Award-winning filmmaker Victoria lynn Weston has completed THE WOODHULL, a striking proof-of-concept short that confronts one of the most extraordinary—and deliberately erased—figures in American history: Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for President of the United States.
Set almost entirely within the confines of a jail cell, THE WOODHULL distills Woodhull’s six-month imprisonment under newly minted federal obscenity laws into a tense, intimate chamber drama. The Woodhull comes face-to-face with the architect of her incarceration and exposing the collision of power, morality, and constitutional betrayal.
Rather than a conventional biopic, THE WOODHULL is a visceral psychological portrait—elegant, restrained, and confrontational. It explores the cost of truth-telling in a society determined to silence women who challenge entrenched authority.
Produced as a proof of concept to be entered into film festivals and is designed to anchor a larger feature project while standing firmly on its own as a complete artistic statement. With its minimalist setting, heightened performances, and cinematic precision, THE WOODHULL demonstrates how historical injustice can feel startlingly contemporary.
THE WOODHULL will be submitted to select film festivals as a proof of concept while serving as the creative foundation for a forthcoming feature film.
