Atlanta, Georgia — VIREON FILMS has officially entered THE WOODHULL into the Festival de Cannes, the world’s most revered stage for international cinema. The 2026 Festival will run May 12–23, with the Official Selection announcement scheduled for April 9.
At the center of THE WOODHULL is a woman too explosive for her time — Victoria Woodhull. Brilliant, fearless, seductive, and politically dangerous, Woodhull challenged the alliance of religion, power, and patriarchy in 19th-century America. The film captures the force of a woman who refused to bow to powerful men determined to silence her.
THE WOODHULL is not merely a period piece. It is a provocation.

And it is about what happens when a woman tells the truth too loudly for the establishment to contain.
The Cannes short-film field is famously exacting. Official Festival materials state that films in the Short Film Competition must be under 15 minutes including credits, and in 2025 only 11 shorts were selected from 4,781 submissions.
“For me, Victoria Woodhull is not a relic of history — she is a living force,” said filmmaker Victoria lynn Weston. “She threatened the machinery of power because she would not stay quiet. THE WOODHULL is about bringing that fire to the screen.”
